Fire at Lake Park

After the fire here at Lake Park I got to thinking about a woman I worked with last year who lives here in La Mesa. She had a fire that didn't really damage her home a great deal but she had to leave for several days and everything was smoke damaged. So we had a work party,
I washed the smoke off hundreds of little glass figurines with vinegar water and soap, bought wardrobe boxes and moving boxes to get the salvaged items to storage and I bought pizza for everyone who helped! It was fun. We all were tired and grimy with soot, but it felt wonderful to help someone in need. There's no way she could have done it alone. I'm sure there are similar needs within our community now. Don't think their needs have been taken care of just because its been over a week.

Hey the editor of the La Mesa Patch Wrote an article about the aftermath of the fire. Check our update page to find out more. Lake Park Fire Update Page.

  1. My condolences to everyone at Lake Park. I covered this tragedy for La Mesa Patch and posted my story and photos (and video) here: http://patch.com/A-hHpP

I would like to hear your story for another article I'm preparing. How did the fire affect you? What was your night like? How are you helping the injured residents? Has Lake Park management's response been satisfactory?

    Please write me at ken.stone@patch.com.

    I'm willing to grant anonymity.

  2. My latest report indicates that Zelma Hall has promised no charges to the fire victims. Still unknown is what higher insurance premiums might mean to homeowner association dues:

  3. By the way, Lake Park never got back to me with any needs of people affected by the fire and since we didn't know who they were we couldn't help them or even send a happy card to cheer them up. Donations were not accepted or acknowledge by general management.
