After we bought a home here in Lake Park telling our friends how we'd love to have them over for tennis and swimming, I read in the 352 page tome that came with the deed that we are not to have more than 3 guests visit at any one time.
This limit on number of guests rankles me. I was angry. I was hot! The excess of rules at Lake Park is well... I feel embarrassed when asking two of my friends over if one of them would volunteer to leave their spouse behind because of this rule.
We clearly need to change this rule when you consider the solutions to this problem without changing the rule. For example: "Well, your spouse can come but they'll have to stay at the house and we can go to the hot tub on rotation. Or how about this? "We'd love to have you (3 couples) come over for a pool tournament but wait till I find out if we can get one of our neighbors to join us to sponsor two of you to play because we can only have three at a time? So if we invite one resident we can have five people but the resident has to stay there; so one of you will have to leave your spouse at the house and we can text when its their turn and rotate out. That's the only way we can use the four tables for a tournament."

I am not aware of other condo's with a guest limit like this. How did this rule come into existance? Is it because we are near a college and some students have abused their privileges? Do renters have the same privileges as owners? The real point is that the facilities are rarely use and I have never seen even one forth of the capacity ever used at a single time.
ReplyDeleteAre the rules on the Lake Park website?
ReplyDeleteDoes Lake Park have a website, with the rules posted on it? We have been an owner for 10 years and are finally thinking of moving to Lake Park, but the restrictive rules and the past lack of customer service of the employees are a concern. We have a dog and a cat, and have occasionally invited FOUR people over for dinner.

I know this was posted a long time ago but we've been owners for over a year now. To be honest I could care less about some of the rules. I've thrown my husband a surprise birthday party and had approx 20 people over. But before the event, as a courtesy I told my neighbors and they honestly didn’t care. They just said try not to get too loud ;) I replied with “if we do please don’t hesitate to let us know.”
ReplyDeleteI've had no trouble inviting mutiple friends to my home. Yes, and courtesy goes a long way. When I asked management if I could have a pool party they said, "No more than three guests at a time." Otherwise I could expect to get a $100 fine... and no, that does not mean you can avoid the rule by paying the fine as though it were a party fee.... I could get a $100 fine for each guest over the 3-person limit.
ReplyDeleteAnd what about changing these rules? Well, Paul signed up for the recreation committee along with at least two others whom we spoke to who were never called for a meeting. Sharon Schultz of the social committee apologized to us for that last night saying something about when "things fell apart" and "it was a crazy year". While I appreciate her for giving the apology, the outcome is still not okay. We owner occupants need to regain access to the democratic process!
